King Charles III of the United Kingdom has conveyed heartfelt congratulations to President John Dramani Mahama and the citizens of Ghana, celebrating the lasting connection between their two countries and the common principles they uphold within the Commonwealth.
Delivering a message to mark Ghana’s Independence Day on Friday, March 6, 2026, the British monarch expressed his warm regards and acknowledged the deep-rooted association between the United Kingdom and the West African nation.
“On the occasion of your Independence Day, my wife and I send our warmest congratulations to you and to the people of the Republic of Ghana,” the King stated in his correspondence directed at President Mahama.
King Charles emphasized that the bond linking the two countries continues to thrive on reciprocal esteem and collective ideals upheld across the Commonwealth family.
“It is with sincere appreciation that I reflect upon the enduring partnership between our nations, rooted in the shared values and mutual respect that define our Commonwealth,” he remarked.
The monarch further recognized the deep historical connections and cultural traditions binding the two nations, making mention of the journey undertaken by his sibling, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, to Accra in the previous year.
“As my brother, H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh said on his visit to Accra in November, we share an extraordinary history and heritage,” he said, expressing gratitude for the warm reception afforded during that trip.
He also applauded the efforts of Ghanaians residing in Britain, portraying them as a crucial connector between the two societies.
“The Ghanaian diaspora in the UK is a vital link in our shared story, contributing to every sphere of life from business and education to arts and culture,” the King observed.
King Charles additionally underscored the necessity of solidarity throughout the Commonwealth, particularly amid worldwide instability.
“The Commonwealth’s rich diversity and the energy of its younger generations continue to inspire hope and progress. In these times of global uncertainty, our collective strength and unity are more vital than ever,” he said.
The sovereign voiced confidence regarding future collaboration between the two nations, particularly during the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled for later this year.
He further noted that Britain and Ghana have persistently enhanced their joint efforts, including programs designed to strengthen climate adaptation across both urban and rural communities.
The King closed his address by extending wishes for tranquility and success for Ghana in the coming months.
“My wife and I join in extending our very best wishes to you and to all Ghanaians for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead,” he concluded.
