President John Dramani Mahama has urged citizens to use Founder’s Day to reflect on the ideals of Ghana’s first leader, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and commit to national progress.
In a post on Monday, September 21, the President said the day offers Ghanaians, both home and abroad, a moment to remember Nkrumah’s role in the fight for freedom and his dream for African unity.
He noted that Nkrumah’s push for independence, continental solidarity and self-determination made Ghana a source of inspiration around the world.
According to Mr Mahama, Nkrumah’s famous assertion that Africans can govern themselves continues to shape the country’s pride and identity.
He stressed that the commemoration should not only celebrate the past but also awaken a sense of duty toward the future, saying political liberation was only the first step.
The President said the mission of creating a fair and thriving nation is still unfinished and requires the effort of every citizen.
He called on Ghanaians to set aside differences, show patriotism, and support the Resetting Ghana Agenda for economic transformation and justice for all.
“Just as Nkrumah battled for our political freedom, we owe it to ourselves to secure economic progress and social fairness for every Ghanaian,” he said.
