Ghanaian rapper M.anifest has spoken out against toxic fan culture, warning that excessive loyalty to artistes and hostility between fan bases could be damaging Ghana’s music industry.
In a post on X, the rapper questioned the growing divisions among supporters of Ghanaian artistes and called for rivalries to exist without turning into personal attacks and hatred.
“Stan culture is a net minus for the culture. The division it creates isn’t adding up. Rivalries are cool, but is it really so difficult to remove toxic hate from the equation?” he wrote.
His comments come amid a fresh social media exchange between Sarkodie and Stonebwoy, which has triggered strong reactions from supporters of both artistes.
Sarkodie and Stonebwoy clash
The latest tension emerged after Sarkodie posted on September 7, 2026, urging members of his SarkNation fanbase to support his music without attacking other artistes.
Stonebwoy subsequently responded, questioning whether Sarkodie’s call for civility was consistent with his conduct within the music industry.
Sarkodie pushed back against the dancehall artiste’s characterisation of his actions, denying that he had deliberately targeted Stonebwoy. He maintained that his original message was genuine and was not directed at any particular artiste.
The exchange has since developed into a broader discussion about the relationship between the two artistes, with both sides referring to private conversations and previous interactions that reportedly preceded the latest social media confrontation.
Their respective fan bases have also largely rallied behind their preferred artistes, further fuelling the online debate.
M.anifest’s history with Sarkodie
M.anifest’s intervention is particularly notable given his own history of lyrical rivalry with Sarkodie.
In 2016, the two rappers were involved in one of the most widely discussed exchanges in Ghanaian hip-hop.
The dispute followed Sarkodie’s Bossy, which M.anifest interpreted as containing subliminal shots at some of his contemporaries. He responded with god MC, a track widely viewed as a direct response to Sarkodie.
Sarkodie later released Kanta, a diss track aimed at M.anifest, intensifying the lyrical battle and triggering heated debate among Ghanaian music fans.
M.anifest ultimately chose not to respond to Kanta, explaining that he had already said what he needed to say.
Despite the rivalry, the two artistes eventually reconciled and have since performed together.
M.anifest has established himself as one of Ghana’s prominent hip-hop artistes, with a career spanning more than a decade.
His notable songs include god MC, W’ani Aba, Someway Bi, Me Ne Woa, Makaa Maka and No Shortcut to Heaven, among others.
