The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has demanded a thorough investigation and prosecution of engineers responsible for the Accra Newtown building collapse.
He attributed the tragedy to inadequate supervision, saying it was time those responsible were held accountable.
Speaking to Citi News, which was monitored by Ghanaianradar, Mr Ayariga expressed condolences to affected families, emphasising poor project supervision in Ghana.
“It calls into question the way we supervise projects and construction in this country. Time and time again, it is only when structures collapse and lives are lost that the issue is discussed, and yet little is done afterwards.
Engineers supervising these structures must be held accountable,” he said.
The March 29 incident left three dead and several injured. The Ghana National Fire Service led rescue efforts, extracting 20 victims from the rubble. The deceased have been handed over to police for further investigation.
