President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that all 16 regions will see major benefits from his administration’s new flagship “Big Push” infrastructure initiative.
He stated that the ambitious programme was designed to unlock economic potential, enhance food distribution, ease travel, and accelerate industrial growth nationwide.
Speaking at the launch event in Afienya yesterday, President Mahama detailed the plan to modernise Ghana’s road network and fortify national connectivity.
“From January 7, we have been designing road projects across the length and breadth of the country. The Big Push touches all 16 regions of the country. Every region is going to benefit from its share of the Big Push programme,” he declared.
Outlining the project’s key priorities, the President said the primary focus was on inter-regional highways connecting regional capitals. “Our priority was to take roads that connect one regional capital to another. We believe that it should be easy for people to travel from one capital to another,” he explained.
The second tier, he added, targets roads linking the nation’s 261 district capitals. The third priority is upgrading infrastructure in crucial food-producing and industrial hubs. “We selected all the major food-growing areas in the country, looked at the roads in those areas, and added them to the Big Push,” he stated.
