President John Dramani Mahama is expected to administer the oaths of office to two newly approved ministers and three Supreme Court nominees at Jubilee House this morning, Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The ceremony, scheduled for 10:00 am, follows Parliament’s approval of the five nominees on Thursday, August 27.
Mahama Ayariga will assume responsibility for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings will take charge of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
Parliament also approved Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante and private legal practitioner Anthony Forson Jnr for appointment to the Supreme Court.![]()
The approvals followed a disputed vetting process in the Appointments Committee. The Minority Caucus, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, withdrew from the proceedings after its objections to the accelerated consideration of the nominees were rejected.
The Minority argued that there was no immediate vacancy on the Supreme Court bench to justify expediting the process.
Appointments Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor dismissed the objection as “flimsy”, “hollow” and “baseless”, insisting that the committee could not reverse a decision already taken by Parliament.
The swearing-in ceremony will complete a major stage in the appointment of the two ministers and pave the way for the three approved nominees to assume their roles on Ghana’s apex court.
