The Deputy Minister for Health, Professor Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that natural health products considered under MahamaCare meet strict scientific and safety requirements.
She delivered the message through the Director for Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Dr Anastasia Yirenkyi, who represented her at the Natural Health & Wellness Expo 2026.
According to the Deputy Minister, natural health products will only be integrated into national healthcare delivery if they are thoroughly tested and formally approved. She emphasised that such products must undergo rigorous scientific evaluation, be properly standardised, and be manufactured in line with Good Manufacturing Practices.

Prof. Ayensu-Danquah added that all products must be supported by credible safety data and receive approval from the Food and Drugs Authority before they can be endorsed.
She further expressed the government’s willingness to collaborate with researchers, innovators and manufacturers to promote evidence-based natural health solutions, noting that this is key to addressing the rising burden of chronic diseases in the country.
While describing MahamaCare as a strong platform for innovation and partnership, the Deputy Minister was clear that only products that meet established scientific and regulatory standards will be supported.
She said this approach is crucial to protecting public health and building trust in Ghana’s growing natural health industry.
