The Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have agreed to form a five-member Technical Search Committee to find and recommend a new head coach for the Black Stars.
The committee is expected to submit its report by Friday, October 9, 2026, following a meeting between the Ministry and the GFA over concerns about the declining performance of Ghana’s national teams.
The Ministry said the next Black Stars coach will be required to reside in Ghana and regularly monitor the domestic league.
The two institutions also agreed to strengthen scouting of local players and develop a larger pool of talent for the senior national team.
Youth development reforms
A new structure will be introduced for the U15, U17 and U20 national teams, with a technical head coordinating the pathway and each team having a dedicated technical team.
The Ministry and GFA also agreed to put U18 and U19 competitions on hold after the ongoing competitions are completed.
The GFA Technical Directorate will work with schools, grassroots programmes and football academies to improve player development and progression.
Other reforms
A Public Interest Committee will be established to oversee the implementation of the agreed reforms.
The two sides also discussed relocating the technical hub to the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram and reducing national team management committees from five members to three.
They are also expected to work towards signing a FIFA-standard cooperation agreement to clarify the responsibilities of the Ministry and the GFA.
The Ministry said the reforms are intended to improve national team management, strengthen player development and restore confidence in Ghanaian football.
