Former NPP National Chairman, Freddie Blay, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of ordering the demolition of his son’s business, Polo Beach Club, at the La Beach enclave.
Mr. Blay made the allegation on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue which was monitored by Ghanaianradar on the sidelines of the NPP’s National Delegates Congress in Kumasi.
“I feel sorry. It is one of the complaints that I think people should hear against the NDC government and against President John Mahama, that he himself ordered it. I know,” he said.
He argued the demolition was wrong because the land dispute is still before the court.”The court is yet to determine it.
Then you complain to the President and the President orders that they should go and break it. He has no respect for law,” he stated.
[Mahama]According to him, the case between his son’s business and the Labadi Beach Hotel has been in court for about two to three years without a final ruling.
He dismissed claims that the Polo Beach Club was squatting on hotel land, insisting the land was legally acquired from the La Stool.
“My son has acquired land from the La Stool and did business on the land that belongs to the La Stool originally. They’ve leased it out. And we are working on it,” he said.
Mr. Blay questioned why the President and National Security intervened in a matter that is sub judice. He challenged the deployment of security personnel for the exercise, saying such action should have been backed by a court order.”Is that law? Is that what is done in the country? Unless the court gives the order,” he said. The demolition of the La Pleasure Beach and the adjoining Polo Beach Club on Friday, October 2, 2026, was carried out by security personnel under National Security supervision after a request from the Labadi Beach Hotel. The exercise was separate from government’s ongoing flood-mitigation demolitions around the Kpeshie Lagoon. SSNIT, owners of the Labadi Beach Hotel, said the operation was to address unlawful occupation and encroachment on the beachfront and to protect its investments in the Labadi Beach Hotel and La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. The demolition has sparked criticism from affected operators and the MP for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
