Emmerson Mnangagwa has paid tribute to Ghana for its historic support during Zimbabwe’s fight for independence, describing the country’s contribution as instrumental to the liberation struggle.
Speaking at a state banquet hosted in his honour by John Dramani Mahama on April 1, the Zimbabwean leader recalled Ghana’s role as a training ground for many freedom fighters during the resistance against colonial rule.
“Most of my colleagues received training here in Ghana for the armed liberation of Zimbabwe. We are forever grateful to Ghana,” he said.
Mnangagwa is on a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Ghana, with a focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and development.
In his remarks, President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening ties with Zimbabwe, highlighting the longstanding relationship built on shared history, solidarity, and mutual respect.
The banquet also featured an exchange of symbolic gifts, underscoring the cultural connections between the two nations and their continued collaboration toward development goals.
