The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) will begin distributing relief items to victims of the recent floods from Saturday, July 4, as government steps up efforts to assist displaced families and affected communities across the country.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, during a media briefing at the Jubilee House on Friday, July 3.

He said the relief exercise forms part of government’s ongoing response to the floods, which have claimed lives, displaced thousands of residents and destroyed property, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, emergency relief supplies have already been delivered to some of the hardest-hit communities, while additional consignments are expected to reach other affected areas in the coming days.

He assured the public that government remains committed to ensuring that all flood victims receive the support they need as recovery and rehabilitation efforts continue.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also urged residents to cooperate with emergency response agencies and comply with safety directives to facilitate ongoing rescue and recovery operations.

“As we navigate the aftermath of this disaster, we urge all citizens to remain vigilant, adhere to safety warnings and report emergencies,” he said.

Reaffirming government’s commitment to restoring affected communities, he said every effort would be made to support victims in rebuilding their lives.

“Your government, the Mahama government, will not rest until every displaced family is housed, every district is restored, and our communities are rebuilt to be stronger and more resilient against future anomalies,” he stated.

The recent heavy rains triggered widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region, resulting in fatalities, the displacement of thousands of residents and extensive damage to homes, businesses and public infrastructure. Emergency response teams remain on the ground, carrying out rescue, relief and recovery operations in the affected communities.
