The Ashanti Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have summoned the party’s Constituency executives in Asante Mampong to address violent disturbances over the nomination of a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The unrest was sparked by aggrieved NDC supporters who stormed the party’s office, vandalizing properties and setting others ablaze.
The youth claimed that Esther Dwomoh had been nominated for the MCE position, despite no official communication from the Presidency. They argued that three individuals – Yakubu Issifu, Mohammed Kamil, and Imoro Iddrisu – were shortlisted after vetting and one of them should be nominated.
Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary, Baah Acheamfour, revealed that regional executives are addressing the concerns of the aggrieved youth. “As we speak, the regional chairman has invited the party leaders in the constituency for some deliberation,” he stated.
Acheamfour also called for calm among NDC supporters, emphasizing that the President’s decisions should be respected. “We respect the decision of the president and the committee who voted for these aspirants, and we should respect that,” he added.
The party’s Regional and Constituency executives are tasked with monitoring and reporting any breaches of this directive, with members found violating these directives potentially facing sanctions.
