The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed more than GH¢157 million in claims payments to healthcare service providers across the country in April 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
According to a statement issued by the Authority’s Claims Directorate, the payments were made in two tranches — GH¢43.7 million on April 14 and GH¢113.6 million on April 30.
The NHIA explained that the payments covered accrued, unvetted claims dating back to 2019 that had remained outstanding due to what it described as isolated, peculiar challenges, as well as some vetted claims up to March 2026.
The Authority said the prompt settlement of claims forms part of its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted healthcare delivery for NHIS subscribers across the country.
Private healthcare facilities reportedly received the largest share of the payments, followed by public and mission health institutions.
In terms of distribution, high-volume facilities accounted for 64 per cent of the total claims paid, while clinics and health centres received 23 per cent. CHPS compounds accounted for 9 per cent, with specialised facilities accounting for the remaining 4 per cent.
The NHIA further reaffirmed its commitment to clearing outstanding arrears and strengthening the financial capacity of healthcare facilities nationwide to improve service delivery under the NHIS.
The statement was issued by the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority.
