The Ghana Meteorological Department has indicated that the country is not expected to experience severe rainfall on Thursday, July 2, offering temporary relief after the heavy downpours earlier this week that caused widespread flooding and disruption in several parts of the country.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, meteorologist Fred Cudjoe said weather conditions are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with only light rainfall anticipated in some areas.
“For today, we are anticipating it (weather) to be mostly cloudy. There is a chance of light rain, but we are not expecting any severe rainfall today. There are some chances for sunshine in the afternoon,” he said.
Mr. Cudjoe also dismissed claims circulating on social media that Ghana could experience rainfall more intense than that recorded earlier this week.
“As people are suggesting on social media that we are going to experience a lot of rain today, even more than what we experienced last Monday, is not entirely the case,” he added.
According to him, weather conditions across the country are expected to alternate between cloudy skies and periods of sunshine throughout the day.
He advised motorists, commuters and people engaging in outdoor activities to carry umbrellas or raincoats as a precaution against occasional showers and drizzle.
“People who will be carrying out some activities outside can carry an umbrella or a raincoat because we are going to have some drizzle,” he said.
Looking ahead, Mr. Cudjoe noted that rainfall activity is expected to increase again towards the weekend, with Friday and Saturday likely to experience more widespread showers under predominantly cloudy conditions.
However, he assured the public that the anticipated rainfall is not expected to match the intensity of the heavy rains that fell on Sunday and Monday.
“Friday and Saturday is where there are high chances of some rainfall activities. Even though we are going to have this rain, it is not going to be of the same magnitude as last Sunday and Monday,” he said.
