The Minority caucus in Parliament has accused the Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Chris Boadi-Mensah, of hiking his own salary by 100 percent without the board’s authorisation.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, April 16, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, claimed that Mr Boadi-Mensah raised his remuneration right after taking office in February 2025, at a period when the NPRA Board had yet to be sworn in.
He challenged the lawfulness of the action, arguing that such a move could not have received proper approval under the existing governance framework.
“A particularly disturbing issue has emerged. We are informed that Mr. Boadi-Mensah doubled his salary immediately upon assumption of office in February 2025 without board approval.
“When he was appointed in February, even without the existence of the board, and we are aware that the board was formed months after he was made the CEO, he doubled his salary in February 2025,” she said
Mr Assafuah emphasised that pension funds are not optional assets but delayed earnings belonging to Ghanaian workers and must be handled with the utmost fiduciary care.
He cautioned that choices made outside proper approval channels risk damaging public confidence in the pensions system.
