The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has discredited a questionable medical report suggesting that former Finance Minister, Kenneth Ofori-Atta, is medically unfit to travel. The office has categorically stated that it has not received any such report from Ofori-Atta or his legal representatives.
The disputed document, dated May 14, 2025, and purportedly signed by Dr. Ahmed Abdalrhim, an internal medicine specialist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, surfaced online today. It explains Ofori-Atta’s inability to honor a scheduled meeting with the OSP on June 2, 2025.
The purported medical report reads: “Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to inform you that Mr. Ofori-Atta has undergone an MR-guided Biopsy and has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. A surgical intervention has been deemed necessary… scheduled for June 13… Following the procedure, Mr. Ofori-Atta will require a recovery period before he is able to travel to his home country.”
However, in a statement issued on June 3, the OSP made it clear that no official medical report had been submitted to its office regarding Ofori-Atta’s health condition. “We wish to place on record that neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his lawyers have submitted any such letter to the OSP,” the statement said.
The OSP expressed concern about the circulation of the alleged medical report through the media rather than through official channels. “It is notable that this alleged hospital letter has been circulated through the media rather than submitted to the law enforcement agency actively investigating him,” the OSP stated.
The Office reiterated that it has not received any certified medical records from a recognized medical institution to validate claims that Ofori-Atta is unfit to travel. Ofori-Atta is under investigation for alleged corruption-related offenses, and the emergence of the disputed medical report has raised eyebrows.
