President John Dramani Mahama has selected public finance expert Pamela Graham as his nominee for the position of Auditor General, subject to consultation with the Council of State.
The nomination was conveyed in an official notice from the Office of the President and forwarded to the Council of State, which must review the choice in line with constitutional requirements.
If approved, Ms Graham will take over from Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, who is due to step down after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 on August 1, 2024. His service was extended for two years under a post retirement arrangement.
Ms Graham is recognised for her expertise in public sector governance and financial oversight, with a track record marked by discipline and credibility in managing state resources.
Under Article 70 1 b of the 1992 Constitution, the President can only appoint an Auditor General after receiving guidance from the Council of State.
The Council is expected to meet soon to assess Ms Graham’s qualifications and advise the President accordingly.
If cleared, she will assume one of the country’s most critical oversight roles, responsible for auditing government accounts and ensuring that public institutions adhere to financial regulations.
