The Akuapem North Member of Parliament (MP), Sammi Awuku, has refuted claims that he was picked up by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Saturday, August 15.
In a video posted online on Sunday, August 16, Mr. Awuku was spotted in Kumasi alongside well-known NDC supporter, Appiah Stadium.
Responding to the reports, Mr. Awuku asked how an arrest could have happened on Saturday when he was taking part in the NPP’s regional elections.
“Claims that I was arrested on Saturday are completely false. Yesterday we had our regional elections and today, Sunday, I am here in Kumasi,” he said.
Speculation had circulated that EOCO had detained the former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) over supposed corruption and financial mismanagement during his time at the Authority.
The alleged detention was reportedly tied to a wider probe into financial dealings and other matters at the NLA.
But Mr. Awuku’s presence in Kumasi on Sunday, together with his remarks, directly contradicts the reports of his supposed arrest.
