The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has entered into an agreement with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit 6,000 Community Teaching Assistants (CTA) for deployment by November 2026.
The arrangement was made public by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the YEA, Malik Basintale, while speaking at the Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21.
He explained that the initiative is meant to strengthen teaching in basic schools, with special focus on deprived and hard-to-reach areas.
Under the Community Teaching Assistant Model, qualified youth will be engaged to support classroom teachers and at the same time acquire practical teaching experience.
Mr Basintale stressed that the assistants are not being brought in to replace professional teachers.
“I’m happy to report that, as of September, an MoU has been successfully signed with the Ghana Education Service for the onboarding of 6,000 beneficiaries, whom we hope to recruit and deploy by November this year,” he stated.
He noted that the programme is part of YEA’s community-based employment drive which seeks to create jobs for the youth while responding to pressing needs at the local level.
He said the model will enable beneficiaries to gain employable skills, earn a living and contribute meaningfully to development in their own communities.
