Executive Secretary of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, has defended the agency’s ongoing investigations into the PDS saga, describing the process as professional, thorough and methodical.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, May 9, Mr Archer said EOCO’s handling of the matter remains strictly guided by evidence and due process amid renewed public attention on the long-running investigation.
His remarks come at a time when Ghana’s anti-corruption campaign has intensified following recent arrests linked to the PDS case, which has reignited scrutiny over alleged financial irregularities connected to transactions involving the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The renewed focus on the investigation has also coincided with controversy surrounding the re-arrest of a former boss of the National Food Buffer Stock Company shortly after charges against him were withdrawn in court, a development that has generated public and legal debate over prosecutorial conduct and due process.
“We are doing a very professional and methodical work at EOCO into this PDS probe,” Mr Archer stated, insisting that investigations are being conducted impartially and without political bias.
While government officials maintain that recent actions are supported by fresh evidence emerging from ongoing investigations, critics argue that the pace and manner of certain prosecutions risk undermining public confidence in the justice system and anti-corruption institutions.
