Four people have been killed and several others injured in two separate armed attacks in the Bono East and Northern regions, prompting the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to deploy specialised units to pursue the perpetrators.
According to the Ghana Police Service, both incidents occurred on May 2, 2026.
In the Bono East Region, armed assailants attacked a fuel station at Sampa, near Jato Zongo in the Atebubu District. The attackers fatally shot two individuals, injured others, and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
On the same day, a separate incident unfolded near Nasia on the Bolgatanga–Tamale highway in the Northern Region. Gunmen ambushed a passenger bus, opened fire on the vehicle, and killed two passengers instantly. Several others sustained gunshot wounds.
Following the attacks, the Inspector-General directed personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit to deploy to the affected areas to reinforce ongoing operations and lead a coordinated manhunt.
The Police Service indicated that security measures have been intensified, including increased armed patrols, to deter further incidents.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
