The United States has reversed its visa restrictions on Ghana, allowing Ghanaians to once again benefit from five-year multiple-entry visas and enhanced consular privileges.
This development comes after months of high-level diplomatic talks between Ghana and the US.

According to Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the news was confirmed by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
“Big win for Ghana! The US visa restrictions imposed on Ghana have been reversed. Ghanaians can now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas and other enhanced consular privileges,” Ablakwa announced on social media.
“This good news was directly communicated to me by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, at a bilateral meeting earlier today, in the margins of the UN General Assembly,” he added.

The US had imposed visa restrictions on Ghana in July 2025, limiting citizens to three-month single-entry visas due to concerns over visa overstays, particularly among students. The reversal is seen as a sign of strengthening Ghana-US relations.
