A Ghanaian-owned mining firm, Heath Goldfields Limited (HGL), took over the Bogoso-Prestea Mine and inherited $8.7 million in debts left by previous operators Future Global Resources (FGR) and Blue Gold.
By January 2026, the company had settled GH¢136 million (over $8.7 million) owed to former workers, including salary and SSNIT contribution arrears. These liabilities came from the previous operator, whose mining rights were revoked by the government in September 2024.
After the takeover, Heath Goldfields invested $75 million to refurbish the mine. In February 2026—24 months after the mine had shut down—it recorded its first gold pour. The company secured full control following legal victories against the former operators.
The settlement followed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union, reinforcing transparency, regulatory compliance, and responsible mining. Heath Goldfields says it remains focused on safety, community engagement, and contributing to Ghana’s national development.
