The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Ghana has pinpointed Honda CR-Vs, Ford F-150s, Range Rovers, and Dodge vehicles as the top brands most often found in their crackdown on stolen cars smuggled into the country.
This comes after EOCO’s teamwork with international law enforcement like Interpol, which has tagged Ghana as a rising hub for vehicles stolen mainly from North America.
“There are certain types of vehicles that are suspicious. The Honda CR-V series, Ford F-150, Range Rover, and Dodge Ram are consistently the top four in our recoveries. If you’re purchasing one of these, it should immediately raise concerns,” warns Leo Anthony Siamah, Head of EOCO’s Legal Unit. He stressed in an interview on JoyNews which was monitored by Ghanaian RADAR that buyers should be extra cautious with these high-risk brands, especially when encountering newer models in immaculate condition.
Mr. Siamah highlighted a growing trend of brand-new 2023 and 2024 models appearing on the local market. “If you’re looking at a 2023 or 2024 model that looks brand new and hasn’t been in an accident, you need to pause. That should trigger verification steps such as checking the car’s status with Interpol,” he advised. While EOCO is focusing on these four brands, they’re also tackling cases involving other vehicles like Toyota Highlanders, Honda Accords, and Toyota Corollas.
