Kojo Adu Asare Warns Government Appointees Against Arrogance and Abuse of Power

Former Adentan MP, Kojo Adu Asare, has criticised the conduct of some government appointees and chief executives, describing them as arrogant, disrespectful, and “wicked.”

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme on Friday, May 15, the veteran National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician warned that growing dissatisfaction within government circles could eventually erupt publicly, adding that the current weakness of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is masking deeper frustrations.

Mr Adu Asare expressed concern over what he described as the dismissive attitude of younger government officials toward senior party figures who helped shape their political careers.

“Some of the CEOs should slow down and respect us when we come to them. These are young guys who grew up under our feet. We saw them at rallies and meetings, and now they feel untouchable,” he stated.

He cautioned appointees against assuming their positions are permanent, reminding them that political power is temporary and can quickly disappear.

The former lawmaker also accused some officials of engaging in actions that could damage the image of the government and expose them to future accountability measures.

“Let’s not assume we as a party have saints around us. People are wicked, and they are in government. They are doing things that may legitimise what people want to do to them later,” he warned, in what appeared to be a reference to possible future investigations or prosecutions.

Drawing from his own experience in public office, Mr Adu Asare noted that political influence often fades once officials leave power, with supporters and associates quickly shifting allegiance to new officeholders.

“It can be lonely. The same people around you today will move to the next person in power. These positions are temporary, and one day you may also be seeking help from someone else,” he added.

He urged government officials to remain humble, accessible, and respectful while in office, stressing that arrogance and abuse of power often have lasting consequences.
