A late-night inferno ripped through Madina Redco Flats on Friday, claiming one life and destroying over 150 structures, including 140 wooden buildings and 20 metal containers used for residential and commercial purposes. The blaze erupted at 11:15 p.m. and firefighters from Madina Fire Station, along with backup teams from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and Headquarters, swiftly responded to the emergency.
Despite arriving within two minutes, the fire had already spread extensively by the time the firefighters got there. The teams managed to confine the flames by 12:02 a.m. and eventually extinguished them by 2:22 a.m. Unfortunately, a young Nigerian woman known as Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, perished in the fire. Her charred remains have been handed over to the Madina Police for further investigation.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the destruction and investigating the cause of the fire. Residents and business owners affected by the disaster are now grappling with the aftermath, counting their losses and seeking support.
