Police in the Juaboso District are investigating a disturbing case involving a 9-year-old girl whose toe was allegedly cut off by her mother as punishment.
The suspect, Vivian Anto, a 31-year-old resident of Sefwi Proso, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
According to a police report, the incident was reported on April 3, 2026, by a relative, Stephen Anto. He told authorities that earlier that morning, the suspect allegedly used scissors to sever the right index toe of her daughter, identified as Diana Boakye, after the child returned home late.
The victim was rushed to the Kofikrom SDA Hospital, where she remains on admission and is said to be responding to treatment.
Police officers who visited the hospital observed that the child had a fresh bandage on her right foot. A preliminary assessment confirmed that the toe had been cut off with a sharp object.
During initial questioning, the girl reportedly identified her mother as the person responsible for the act.
Investigators retrieved the severed toe, which has been photographed and preserved as evidence. A medical report form has also been issued to support further documentation of the injury.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned before court after the Easter break when sittings resume.
Police say investigations are ongoing and have assured the public that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
