Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
Semenyo requested to be excused from the September–October international window to focus on recovering from the lingering injury.
The Manchester City forward was also expected to undergo independent medical checks through the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to provide further clarity on the condition.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to the Premier League season, registering two goals and three assists in five appearances for Manchester City.
His withdrawal further reduces Ghana’s attacking options, with the Black Stars already without key players including Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey.
Ghana will begin its 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24 before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
Black Stars receive late reinforcements
The latest withdrawals have prompted the Black Stars technical team to make a number of late additions to the squad.
Brandon Thomas-Asante, Felix Afena-Gyan and Jonas Adjetey have been called up, while Rockson Yeboah and Rahim Ibrahim have received their first invitations to the senior national team.
The changes leave coach Carlos Queiroz with a reshaped squad as Ghana prepares for its opening AFCON 2027 qualifying fixtures.
