Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has called for the dissolution of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, arguing that it has failed to deliver meaningful interventions for Ghana’s creative industry.
Speaking on GHOne TV on Friday, August 28, the musician criticised what he described as the lack of visible initiatives to support musicians, actors and other creatives.
“We don’t see any innovative things coming out from that side, and it’s not affecting the industry like we did,” he said.
Shatta Wale said the creative sector needed stronger government support, particularly for artistes whose work attracts international attention and helps promote Ghana globally.
He questioned why the ministry does not actively identify and support creatives whose independently produced projects gain recognition beyond Ghana.
The musician argued that institutions responsible for the sector must adopt more practical and innovative approaches that provide tangible benefits to industry players.
He maintained that without significant changes to the way the creative industry is supported, the ministry would continue to have limited impact on the growth and international competitiveness of Ghanaian creatives.
