The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has commended outstanding students nationwide for their perseverance and strong will, describing them as the leaders who will determine Ghana’s trajectory.
At the President’s Independence Day Awards on March 4, themed “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” she honored students who demonstrated academic brilliance and admirable character. Fifty-two students from all 16 regions, including those with visual and hearing impairments, received awards, showcasing Ghana’s dedication to inclusive learning.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the students’ achievements reflect Ghana’s educational values. She noted that while policies and infrastructure drive national progress, citizens’ character and discipline, especially among young people, are equally crucial. She urged awardees to stay focused and uphold the values that earned them recognition.

“I encouraged recipients to remain steadfast, maintain integrity, respect authority, and inspire their peers,” she said. She praised the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service for promoting academic excellence and acknowledged private sector partners, particularly Nestlé Ghana Limited, for supporting education initiatives.
The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to quality, inclusive education that equips Ghanaian children with knowledge, skills, and values. “The Ghana we envision will be shaped by young citizens who combine excellence with integrity and leadership,” she said, expressing confidence in the country’s future.
